Epic!

What a crazy 4 days!  Ben and I left Amsterdam and headed to the beach for two days…which ended up being 4 days.  We just haven’t wanted to leave.

The first night we had a drink at the hostel bar and then headed to bed.  We were recovering from Kings Day and just really wanted a good nights sleep and we were planning on hiring bikes the next day and riding out to see the tulips.  Im not one for flowers so I wasn’t overly keen on spending the money to get in, but wow!   It was amazing!  We ended up going with a few people from the hostel and we had a blast, who would’ve thought that flowers could be so much fun.   There were so many of them, and the colours were just amazing.  We were running around taking photos like they were going out of style lol.  We didn’t get to see everything because we had to get the bikes back and it was about a 10km ride back to the beach.  10km seems far I know, but to be honest it didn’t seem that far.  Bike riding is such a different experience in Holland, its so…enjoyable?  I really don’t know how to explain it…but its fun!

That night a bunch of us (Jess, Hayla, Ryan, Ricky) and of course Ben and I, went down to the carnival on the beach and had some fun on the bumper cars and the fun house.  My legs are covered in bruises from the bumper cars, they actually hurt to touch but it was well worth it.  After that we went down to the beach and there were phosphorescent so the sand was glowing green under our feet as we walked.  It was so cool, I had never seen it before and was like a kid in a candy store running around and jumping in the sand to see the pretty green lights.  We all know small things make me happy J

We spent the rest of the evening at the hostel having drinks and playing pool finishing the night off at around 4am and Ben and I had to be up the next morning to check out.   We were supposed to go back into Amsterdam for the night and catch a train to Germany the next day, however, we were having a really great time so we switched everything around and changed our train to a bus for Thursday afternoon.   We didn’t do much that day except relax which was needed.  For dinner Ben and Ricky cooked up steak, mash potatos and homemade mushroom gravy.  Oh my god, yum yum, it was so good.  I cant remember the last time I had a steak,  it definitely wasn’t a backpacker meal.  The rest of the night we drank lots of wine and did quite a few shots and once again closed the bar.  I have definitely not gotten an early night since being in Holland.

The next day – which was our last day – we headed to the market and got hot dogs and ice cream and went for a walk on the beach – no phosphorescent though, not during the day.

It was everyones last night at the hostel so the guys and I cooked our last family dinner – a huge stirfry that fed six of us – which was so yummy.  We had drinks and then went out to one of the local bars just for a change of scenery of course getting to bed at 4am, again!

Holland has been an epic 10 days!  The people I have met and the amazing times that I have had, it has been unreal and one of the best times I have had in all my travels, I really was not expecting  to have the time that I have been having, hence why I skipped my flight on Monday J.  It’s really hard to say good bye to this magical country and of course the three day family that we had at the beach.   It always sucks when you have to say goodbye, but we are meeting up with Jess and Hayla in Berlin on Saturday.  Ricky gets there on Sunday but not sure if we will get to see him and one of the other guys that was at the hostel is already there so we will be meeting up with him as well.  Ben has decided to change his plans and come to Berlin with me Friday night which is awesome.  We have become awesome travel mates and not sure what I am going to do when we part ways; it will be a sad day in Europe when that happens.

Now Ben and I are on a bus to Cologne (Germany).  The bus is great, free tea and coffee, movies, food, free head phones all for 15 euros…very exciting J.  Super stoked to get to a new country.  I believe it is going to be an early night tonight, Ben wants some sleep and I could use some too.
